Become A Member
New members are always welcomed and appreciated and we are in the process of adding more classes, and increasing the times that the shop is open, so that we have lots more fun things and opportunities for our members to learn have fun, and make use of the workshop’s equipment and space!
Note: All new members are required to take the Beginning Lapidary Class to make sure that they have been trained to use the equipment properly and safely before being able to use the equipment on their own.

Lapidary Shop
Our shop is open to members three times a week and is staffed by experienced members willing to share their knowledge as well as their techniques in the creation of cabochons and rock cutting.
Classes
On-going classes in wire wrap, creating cabochons, mineralogy, jewelry making (various types), and more.
Field Trips
SMS Members go on field trips to collect rocks, fossils, and minerals.
Large Rock Pile
Tons of material to work with for only a small price per pound.
Gem, Jewelry & Mineral Show
Our annual Gem, Jewelry and Mineral Show is held each November at the Scottish Rite Temple in Sacramento – fun for the entire family!
Extensive Library
A diverse library of geology and lapidary-related reference and instruction books.
And …
A monthly newsletter (The Matrix), participation in and announcement of other area gem and mineral shows and field trips, tailgate BBQs, educational opportunities, monthly auctions and more!
:::::: How To Join ::::::
To join is easy! Just come down to the workshop when it is open (click HERE to view our hours) and fill out a member application and then pay the year’s dues! At the next board meeting we will then vote on officially accepting your membership request.
Membership Dues
The dues period of the Society are January 1st – December 31st.
Prorate breakdown: From October 1st – remaining membership for that year will be $15 IF the next year’s membership is paid in full.
Dues are as follows:
EVERY member (except minors or those with health issues passed by the board) MUST donate a minimum of 8 work hours for one (or more) of our main public events, meeting the expectations of that shift.
Otherwise they can elect to pay an additional $30 fee instead (due by Oct. 31st).
:::::: New Members ::::::
Single Adult Membership:
$45 dollars for the first year, with the option to choose an engraved badge ($8) or a printed badge (free).
Volunteer for a minimum of 8 hours per year either at one of our public events or help support an event behind the scenes by, or pay an additional $30 fee (due by Oct. 31st) to opt out of volunteering. Note: 2 Basic Cabochon Classes are included in this price.
Each Additional Adult (living at the same address):
$37 dollars a year, with the option to choose engraved badges ($8 each) or printed badges (free).
Volunteer for a minimum of 8 hours per year either at one of our public events or help support an event behind the scenes by, or pay an additional $30 fee (due by Oct. 31st) to opt out of volunteering.
Note: 2 Basic Cabochon Classes are included in this price.
Junior Membership:
Junior Members (8-17 yrs.) must pay the annual fee for CFMS dues & insurance ($10), with the option to choose engraved badges ($8 each) or printed badges (free).
The junior member MUST be sponsored and supervised by an adult member.
Note: Sponsoring parent or child must volunteer for a minimum of 8 hours per year either at one of our public events or help support an event behind the scenes, or pay an additional $30 fee (due by Oct. 31st) to opt out of volunteering.

Single Adult Membership:
$25 dollars a year, with the option to choose an engraved badge ($8) or a printed badge (free).
Volunteer for a minimum of 8 hours per year either at one of our public events or help support an event behind the scenes by, or pay an additional $30 fee (due by Oct. 31st) to opt out of volunteering.
Each Additional Adult (living at the same address):
$17 dollars a year, with the option to choose engraved badges ($8 each) or printed badges (free).
