Who We Are and What We Do:

The Sacramento Mineral Society (SMS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting interest in and increasing knowledge and understanding of mineralogy and the related sciences, and lapidary and the related arts. We organize Field Trips to encourage the study of geological formations and the collection and preservation of minerals as they occur in nature. We also sponsor workshops focusing on the topics of minerals, gems, and the nature sciences, and have classes in jewelry making, silversmithing, and other creative media, including wire wrapping.

We strive to maintain an active membership of individuals insterested in the nature-related sciences, lapidary and other creative outlets, and who simply enjoy sharing their fascination with rocks, minerals, geology, lapidary and related topics.

One of our goals is to gain and maintain an active membership of Juniors who are interested in mineralogy and the related sciences, lapidary and the related arts, and who will eventually carry our club into the future.

We are one of the few area clubs that maintains a well-equipped lapidary shop and has its own clubhouse with a library and a growing mineral collection. We also have a large selection of rough material in our yard for sale to members and the public.

We conduct an Annual Show in November, many social events, monthly educational meetings, field trips, and our shop is open for use by members two times a week.

We award scholarships in the Earth Sciences each year to local college students.

Please e-mail the Scholarship Committee for more info.

Members volunteer their time throughout the year for community services, including offering

presentations to local grade schools. Please contact us if you would like a presentation made to your students. We also support our local PBS station, KVIE, in their fund raising efforts.

The SMS is a member of:

The California Federation of Mineralogical Societies (CFMS),

The Co-Op Field Trip Association of Northern California (CO-OP),

and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS).

We support the AFMS Rock Exchange Program.

Please contact us if you would like to do a swap.

Our Club colors: Blue and Gold.

Be sure to check out the wonderful Australian Collection Display we have in our club house.

Members Rolf Zschoernig and Kymberly Andrews updated and cataloged this beautiful collection.

Several new display cabinets have been added in recent months.
Stop by the club house and see how our collection is growing.
